“To make sound or whole, to restore to health, restore to a sound or normal state, to mend.”
Healing can also mean restoring to health, but the definition mentions "making whole" which is not a feature of curing.
Healing involves discovering who we are and to see just how powerful we can be if we free ourselves from the limitations of our conditioning. Healing views health as being physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually in balance.
Healing is about reinventing our self-perception and restructuring our lifestyle so that it’s conducive to good health. We remove the sources responsible for the disconnection between the soul, mind, and body. Healing begins with awareness and ends with change. The goal of healing isn’t fixing, it’s creating—creating a healthy self-perception, healthy thoughts, and healthy relationships.
Healing is an essential part of life. As much as we wouldn't like to admit it, most of us try to avoid it and distract ourselves from healing opportunities. We have unconscious negative programs and beliefs that guide us into greater suffering. Ultimately it all leads towards healing in the end. How many times have you heard of someone finally making complete peace with their loved ones just prior to dying? This is an example of healing.
“Healing” is an essential part of life and has little or nothing to do with "curing". One could even say that it is the goal in life to heal, because without it life is not complete, life cannot finish, life is not "whole".
Identifying cures for illnesses seems a little insignificant in the light of healing although it is still worth pursuing – it is a part of life. However, diseases have a meaning and a lesson in life which goes FAR beyond the fact that they need rectification through intervention. Curing an illness or addiction does not make the person whole, and healing a person may not cure an illness.
What is extremely important is the quality of life and particularly in terms of wholeness. The more complete and balanced life is the more it will reach its potential and fulfillment.
The sooner we switch our attention from curing to healing, the sooner we will see greater peace on earth as a whole.
Curing diseases, illnesses or disorders does not truly make people better. Making whole does.
